### Detailed Exam Syllabus
The SSC JE examination is a two-tier process designed to test your technical prowess and general aptitude. Let's break down what you need to master:
**Paper-I: Computer Based Examination (CBE)**
* **Total Marks:** 200
* **Total Questions:** 200
* **Duration:** 2 Hours (120 minutes)
* **Negative Marking:** 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Be careful!
* **Sections:**
1. **General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Questions, 50 Marks):** This section will test your ability to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions. It includes questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem-solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, figural classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.
2. **General Awareness (50 Questions, 50 Marks):** This section aims to test the candidateβs general awareness of the environment around him/her and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity and Scientific Research.
3. **General Engineering (100 Questions, 100 Marks):** This is your core technical section. You will choose *one* discipline:
* **Part-A: Civil Engineering:** Building Materials, Estimating, Costing and Valuation, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Irrigation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering (Theory of Structures, Concrete Technology, RCC Design, Steel Design).
* **Part-B: Electrical Engineering:** Basic Concepts, Circuit Law, Magnetic Circuit, AC Fundamentals, Measurement and Measuring Instruments, Electrical Machines, Fractional Kilowatt Motors and single-phase induction Motors, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Estimation and Costing, Utilization and Electrical Energy, Basic Electronics.
* **Part-C: Mechanical Engineering:** Theory of Machines and Machine Design, Engineering Mechanics and Strength of Materials, Properties of Pure Substances, 1st Law of Thermodynamics, 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, Air Standard Cycles for IC Engines, Rankine Cycle of Steam, Boilers, Classification, Specification, Fitting & Accessories, Air Compressors & their cycles, Refrigeration cycles, Nozzles & Steam Turbines, Fluid Mechanics & Machinery, Production Engineering.
**Paper-II: Descriptive Type Examination**

* **Duration:** 2 Hours (120 minutes)
* **Nature:** Conventional questions, written exam.
* **Syllabus:** This paper will exclusively cover **General Engineering** of your chosen discipline (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering) in greater depth. Questions will be designed to test your understanding of fundamental concepts and ability to apply engineering principles to practical problems. Expect numerical problems, theoretical explanations, and design-related questions. A strong grasp of the Paper-I technical syllabus is crucial here, but with an emphasis on detailed, structured answers.
### Preparation Tips
Cracking the SSC JE exam requires a strategic approach, consistent effort, and smart study habits. Hereβs how you can boost your chances:
1. **Understand the Syllabus & Exam Pattern Thoroughly:** This is your blueprint. Know what's expected in Paper-I and Paper-II, the weightage of each section, and the negative marking scheme.
2. **Master Your Technical Subjects:** For Paper-I General Engineering and Paper-II, your engineering fundamentals must be rock solid.
* **Recommended Books (General Engineering):**
* *R.S. Khurmi* for Mechanical Engineering (Objective & Conventional)
* *R.S. Aggarwal* (Objective Type) for Civil Engineering
* *V.K. Mehta* or *J.B. Gupta* for Electrical Engineering
* Standard textbooks for each subject (e.g., *Theory of Structures by S. Ramamrutham*, *Fluid Mechanics by R.K. Bansal*, *Basic Electrical Engineering by V.K. Mehta & Rohit Mehta*).
* Focus on conceptual clarity. Practice numerical problems extensively.
3. **Ace General Intelligence & Reasoning:** This section is scoring if practiced well.
* **Recommended Books:** *A Modern Approach to Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning by R.S. Aggarwal*.
* Solve puzzles, series, coding-decoding, and analogy questions daily.
4. **Stay Updated with General Awareness:** This is broad, so focus on current affairs of the last 6-8 months, static GK (History, Geography, Polity, Science) particularly relevant to India.
* **Recommended Books:** *Lucent's General Knowledge*.
* Read newspapers daily (The Hindu, Indian Express), follow government news portals, and watch current affairs debates.
5. **Practice Previous Year Papers:** This is non-negotiable! Solve at least the last 5-7 years' SSC JE question papers for both Paper-I and Paper-II. This helps you understand question trends, time management, and identifies your weak areas.
6. **Take Mock Tests Regularly:** Once you've covered a good portion of the syllabus, start taking full-length mock tests under timed conditions. Analyze your performance, learn from mistakes, and refine your strategy. Many online platforms offer quality mock tests.
7. **Handwritten Notes & Revision:** Make concise, self-explanatory notes, especially for formulas, key concepts, and important facts. Regular revision is the key to retaining information.
8. **Time Management:** During the exam, allocate time wisely to each section. Don't get stuck on a single difficult question. For Paper-II, practice writing clear, structured answers within the word limits.
9. **Health & Mindset:** Maintain a healthy lifestyle, get enough sleep, and stay positive. A calm and focused mind performs best.
Good luck, aspirants! Your hard work and dedication will surely pave the way to success in SSC JE 2026!
